“A Man of Faith,” Alleged Rapist’s Family Sends Letters of Support to Judge

Several family members of alleged rapist Alexander Peter Roddy Myrin, 25, sent letters to Judge David Kreider expressing their support for his character.
According to the arrest report, Myrin sexually assaulted the victim before raping her. The victim told Myrin to stop, but he didn’t. He now faces sexual battery and strangulation charges.
Medical staff verified that Myrin physically injured the victim.
The victim confronted Myrin for the injuries over text, and he said he was “getting ahead of himself,” the arrest report states.
Myrin’s uncle, John Roddy, called his nephew a “man of faith” and “not a threat to society.”
Myrin’s other uncle, Charles Roddy, called him a “good young man” and said he can “contribute much to society.”
Myrin’s cousin, Irene O’Reilly, called him a “loving, kindhearted, and carefree young man.” O’Reilly said she “understands the seriousness of the charges” before suggesting “mental health and substance treatment” are appropriate punishments.
Myrin’s brother, Gulf Coast University Professor Paul Myrin, wrote, “I understand the seriousness of the charges before the court, and I do not intend to minimize the situation… Since the incident, Alex has taken steps to reconnect with and deepen his faith by reading the Bible and attending evening prayer circles while in custody.”
Alexander Myrin’s aunt, Anne McGillicuddy, informed the court that her nephew formally attended Belmont Abbey University in North Carolina on a track scholarship, but he left, and she doesn’t know why. McGillicuddy wrote, “The Alex I know and love would never treat someone like he is accused of.”
Alexander Myrin’s mom, Noreen Myrin, asked the court to consider her son’s “overall character” when making a decision on the charges.
The Alachua County Jail is currently holding Alexander Myrin without bond.
