Alachua County Man Arrested for Breaking in Residence and Choking Woman

Alachua County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested Danny Cole, 33, last week and charged him with domestic battery by strangulation.
According to the arrest report, Cole broke into the victim’s residence and entered her bedroom. The victim tried to run away, but Cole grabbed her and caused her to fall on the ground. The victim attempted to grab pepper spray from her backpack, and Cole pulled the bedsheet over her head and started choking her with both hands.
The victim managed to grab the pepper spray and maced Cole so she could run out of the room. Cole reportedly grabbed the victim by her hair and dragged her across the floor. The victim was able to escape, and Cole fled the scene after realizing she was calling the police.
Deputy Tyler Jovic reported that the doorframe of the victim’s residence was broken, consistent with Cole breaking in.
The victim told deputies that Cole had no reason to be at the residence and that the doorframe wasn’t broken prior to the incident.
Cole is being held in the Alachua County Jail on a $100,000 bond.
