Alachua County Man Arrested for Shooting at Neighbors

An Alachua County man is facing charges of burglary, property damage, and resisting arrest, on top of four counts of aggravated assault for allegedly shooting at a home with four people.
Alachua County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO) deputies responded to a small neighborhood off NW County Rd 235 after receiving a call from one of the victims about Max Jacob Barreto, 29, standing on their porch and yelling at them while shooting a gun.
According to the arrest report, deputies arrived at the scene to find Barreto had left his neighbors' porch and retreated to his residence across the street.
The arrest report says deputies surrounded Barrerto’s house and gave him “commands to come out of the residence with clear and empty hands. He did not comply…. Max retreated inside of his residence and refused all lawful orders given. Approximately three hours later, Max reluctantly exited his residence but continued to refuse lawful orders. An Alachua County K9 was utilized to bring Max in compliance to effect an arrest.”
The victims told deputies Barreto was “yelling at them to come out and fight.” One of the victims said he went to lock their window and saw Barreto wearing a headlamp and yelling. The victim said he recognized Barreto because he cleans the neighbors’ pools.
The victims observed Barreto break several of their front porch decorations, causing at least $200 in damages.
Barreto is being held in jail without bond pending a pretrial detention motion by the State Attorney’s Office.
