The sheriff of Alachua County Emery Gainey posted a message on Facebook wishing Alachua residents a happy Easter.

“Hi. I’m Alachua County Sheriff Emery Gainey. I wanted to wish you, your families, and your colleagues a happy Easter. Today, as we begin a season of renewal, let’s remember and celebrate the resurrection of Christ. No matter what you’re experiencing or going through, Easter is proof that light overcomes darkness. I pray that you’re filled with hope, joy, and redemption on this resurrection this Sunday.”

Gainey was the formerly the sheriff of Marion County after former sheriff Chris Blair was arrested on perjury charges. He was appointed to be Alachua County’s sheriff after Clovis Watson resigned. Unlike Blair, Watson was not investigated for his crimes in an official capacity.
