Bond Reduction Motion Fails for Newberry Man in Jail on Sex Crime Charges
On November 12, Matthew Cory Green, 56, motioned to reduce his bond of $200,000 for his three counts of possessing and three counts of digitally transmitting child sexual abuse material, in addition to a count of using a two-way communication device to facilitate a felony.
As grounds for his release, the motion states Green is unable to afford the bond. The motion cites Green’s veteran status and states he is “employed in the medical field."

Judge Denise Ferrero denied the motion Wednesday afternoon.

Following Green’s arrest on October 30, the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office published a press release on the case.
The press release states, “Through detailed digital investigative methods, Detective Dawson was able to identify the suspect as 56-year-old Matthew Green, a resident of Newberry, Florida. After confirming Green’s residence on SW 15th Avenue, located near Newberry Elementary School, Detective Dawson obtained a search warrant for the property… Although Green’s residence is in close proximity to a local school, at this stage of the investigation there is no evidence indicating that he had any physical contact or direct involvement with students in the area. This remains an active and ongoing investigation, and additional charges may be forthcoming. No further information will be released at this time to protect the integrity of the case.”
As of this writing, no further charges have been filed against Green in the Alachua County court records system.
In May 2024, WUFT covered Newberry’s expansion as a city, and the article contains a quote from Green. Following a quote from a resident stating the Newberry government should consider input from the community, the article states, “Matthew Green, a traveling surgical technician living in Newberry, expressed the same concern on local and national levels. ‘What we’re lacking is honesty,’ he said. ‘Doing the things that are right for the people, not for themselves.’”
