A man who was previously convicted of aggravated manslaughter of a child has been extradited to Lowndes County, Georgia, on one count of child cruelty, one count of rape, three counts of child molestation and three counts of aggravated child molestation.

According to a press release by the Valdosta Police Department (VPD), "In April of this year, two children who are under the age of 15 told a family member that a person known to them had sexually assaulted them in the Fall of 2024. VPD was contacted about the allegations, and detectives began to investigate the case. Detectives worked closely with the Children’s Advocacy Center while conducting the investigation. Through investigation, detectives collected information that Lee Harris had sexually assaulted the two children… Detectives began working with other law enforcement agencies to locate Harris. Earlier this month, with the assistance of the Lowndes County Sheriff's Office, Harris was located and arrested by the Gainesville Police Department in Florida. On August 22, 2025, Harris was extradited to Valdosta, and he is currently in the Lowndes County Jail.”

VPD Chief Leslie Manahan said, “This monster took advantage of young children, whose lives will never be the same. We are thankful that the children were brave, and strong enough to speak with an adult about the situation, so that he can be held accountable for his actions. We pray that these children can continue to receive the help they need to move forward from these horrible incidents.”

Alachua County court records show that Harris was convicted of aggravated manslaughter of a child in 2006. According to a Gainesville Sun article, Harris gave his infant child an excessive amount of Benadryl to try and help her sleep while staying at St. Francis House homeless shelter. The victim’s mother defended Harris at the time, and told the Sun her husband thought he was helping and has a learning disability.
