[On September 23], Amy Trask challenged Representative Chad Johnson to a public debate over the future of Levy, Gilchrist, and Alachua counties. Trask is the Democratic nominee running to unseat Rep. Johnson on November 3.

[Trask said], "I'm extending a simple invitation to Rep. Johnson: a debate open to the public. No handlers. No pre-screened questions. The people of District 22 deserve an opportunity to compare our records and visions for the future. You choose the date and time - I'll choose the place. We should meet in a community that is feeling the pressure of rapid development, strained infrastructure, and higher grocery costs and healthcare bills. I propose the Tommy Usher Center in Chiefland, at the heart of our district.

Three moderators. One moderator chosen by me, one moderator chosen by you, and one moderator chosen by a local nonpartisan institution we both agree to. This will guarantee the debate is fair and balanced.

District 22 deserves a leader who isn't afraid to host town halls and face constituents when the stakes rise. I'm hearing from voters who want a representative that tackles issues that matter to them and answers for their votes - not a lawmaker who introduces bills bought by corporations and campaign donations.
