Florida Sex Offender Arrested by Bradford County Sheriff’s Office After Tip to Alachua Police
Christopher Daniel Crawford (Bradford County Sheriff’s Office)

On September 24, Bradford County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested registered sex offender Christopher Daniel Crawford, 44, on three counts of violating sex offender registration violations.

In 2004, Crawford was sentenced to four years in prison after molesting a child between the age of 12 and 15, according to the Florida Department of Corrections website. Following his conviction, he became registered as a sex offender in Hillsborough County. Between his initial release and now, he’s served three additional stints in prison for violating sex offender registration requirements, with his most recent release being just three months ago.

On September 26, the Alachua Police Department (APD) announced Crawford’s arrest on social media.

According to APD, “The tip stated that Christopher Daniel Crawford was residing in Alachua County but also provided a Bradford County address. After determining the address was in Bradford County, APD promptly forwarded the information to the Bradford County Sheriff’s Office for investigation."

Bradford deputies reportedly found Crawford “hiding in a bedroom closet” and he was “arrested without incident.”

According to a report from the Bradford County Sheriff’s Office, “During this investigation, Crawford admitted that he had been physically present in Bradford County for over one week. This exceeded the three-day period described in the residence definitions contained within his registration obligations… The information received from the Alachua Police Department indicated that Crawford had reportedly been away from his Hillsborough County location for several weeks… Review of Crawford's registration information showed that the Bradford County location had not been reported as his permanent or temporary residence. Crawford's registration information also showed no employer information, which was inconsistent with Crawford's explanation that he believed his presence in another county only required reporting if he was there for employment purposes.”

Crawford is held on a bond of $150,000.
