Former UF Student Government Rep Sentenced to Probation for Child Sexual Abuse Material
On August 10, former University of Florida student government representative Tyler Ngoc Do, 22, was sentenced to five years of sex offender probation for possessing child sexual abuse material (CSAM).
An article by the Alligator states, “Do served on the Student Senate for UF Student Government for two months in May 2025 and has been affiliated with the Vision Party as a campus ambassador since August 2024, according to his LinkedIn.” A student government (SG) spokesperson reportedly denied affiliation between SG and Do.
In September 2025, Gainesville Police Department officers, reportedly with assistance from the Alachua County Sheriff's Office, arrested Do and charged him with possession of CSAM, attempted distribution of CSAM and unlawful use of a two-way communications device.
In December 2025, prosecutors dropped the unlawful use of a two-way communications device charge.
The case was resolved with a plea deal where prosecutors dropped the attempted distribution charge and Do received the probation-sentence/conviction for the possession charge.
According to the GPD arrest report, they investigated Do for two further cybertips involving CSAM back in 2022, but the investigation was handed over to the ACSO because it was in their jurisdiction. ACSO “verbally counseled” Do instead of arresting him, the report indicates.
ACSO has denied public records requests relating to Do and the two cybertips, stating it’s an active investigation. When questioned about why the GPD report indicates the ACSO investigation was closed in favor of verbal counseling, ACSO Records responded, "This does not constitute a records request, this a question and we are not required to answer questions only furnish records. The lead detective on this case is Detective Josh Dawson." ACSO Records provided contact information for Dawson but he hasn't responded to an email requesting clarification.
Detective Donna Montague reported, “When asked if [Do] had a Dropbox account, [Do] stated that's why he believed [law enforcement] was at his residence. [Do] stated that the Dropbox account that was reported in the CyberTip is his. [Do] stated that he logged into his Dropbox account in April 2025 and then logged out. [Do] stated that when he attempted to login again, he received an email from Dropbox telling him that they deactivated his account, due to child exploitation material being located on his account. [Do] initially denied knowing there was child sexual abuse material on his account but later stated he was going through a ‘dark’ time. [Do] initially denied sharing or attempting to share the child sexual abuse video. He indicated that after he was given a verbal warning last year, by [law enforcement], he messed up again. [Do] stated that last time he viewed child pornography was April 2024, but later stated that he does view it, on X (formerly known as Twitter), but that he never intentionally seeks it out.”
Do is serving out his probation in Gainesville and he can be found on the Florida sex offender registry as a designated sexual offender.
