Gainesville Police Department officers arrested Andrew Palmer Roane, 30, Monday night and charged him with domestic battery.

According to the arrest report, the victim told police that Roane was being more aggressive as he continued to consume alcohol, leading to him slapping her and shoving a bookcase on her.

Police observed a knocked-over bookcase when they arrived on the scene. The victim had visible injuries to her wrists.

The arrest report states Roane’s “behavior was erratic in nature, and he was highly emotional.” He denied striking the victim with an open hand but admitted to slapping her with the back of his hand, claiming it was to get her attention. Roane said he was frustrated that the victim kept walking away from him.

Roane was released on a $5,000 bond under orders he not contact the victim and not consume any drugs or alcohol.
