Gainesville Police Department (GPD) officers arrested Alex J. Bamond, 34, Saturday and charged him with misdemeanor domestic battery and resisting an officer without violence.

According to the arrest report, the victim told police an intoxicated Bamond was ignoring her before he randomly started yelling and throwing things at her. Bamond reportedly threw a book and apron in the victim’s direction, along with a comforter, which struck her in the head.

The victim called 911, and the operator told her to separate herself from Bamond, prompting her to lock herself in a room. Bamond reportedly forced his way inside the room as she was attempting to shut the door and tried to hug the victim. The victim moved away and told Bamond not to touch her, but he forcefully hugged her anyway before leaving the scene, the arrest report shows.

GPD Officer John Konstantis reported that Bamond “was breathing very heavy, and sweating profusely. [His] eyes were also bloodshot, and he was slurring his words."

Konstantis reports, "I then asked [Bamond]  ‘what`s going on,’ to which he replied ‘I’'m sad that I’m losing my family.’ I then asked [him] what was the reason [police were] called, to which he replied multiple times stating, ‘I’m not giving y’all shit.’”

Konstantis went on to report that Bamond walked away when officers read him his Miranda Rights and tensed his arm when police arrested him.

Judge Gloria Walker ordered Bamond to be released on recognizance under the conditions that he not contact the victim or possess weapons, drugs and alcohol.
