Gainesville Man Arrested for Downtown Dating Violence

Gainesville Police Department officers arrested Marcelo Enrique Cherres, 25, early Sunday morning and charged him with misdemeanor battery.
According to the arrest report, Officer Jarrell Delancy was in Downtown Gainesville when a man approached him with information about a domestic altercation that occurred at the Arcade Bar. As they were walking, the man pointed out Cherres as the suspect, and Delancy detained him.
According to a witness, Cherres became “extremely upset” with the victim because he believed another guy was trying to talk or flirt with her. The witness said Cherres became “extremely verbally and physically aggressive,” cursing at the victim and throwing her belongings at her. The witness said Cherres swung at the victim but never connected.
A second witness corroborated the first witness’ story and additionally advised that Cherres snatched the victim by her arm and forced her outside.
Delancy reported, “I tried speaking with the victim, but [she] was extremely intoxicated and could not bе interviewed… She called [Cherres] an ‘asshole’ several times.”
Cherres was released from the Alachua County jail after posting a $5,000 bond, court records show.
