Tyson Antonio Simmons, 27, was arrested on Wednesday and charged with domestic battery.

Simmons was reportedly arguing with the victim when he pushed her into a wall. The victim began attempting to get into her room to get her belongings when Simmons locked the door.

The victim told the Alachua County Sheriff's Office (ACSO) she got into the room and Simmons pushed her, causing her to fall down and hit her head against the wall. Simmons got on top of the victim and she grabbed a fan in self-defense. The victim got up and Simmons reportedly pushed her into the floor again.

The victim had visible injuries on her face and arms.

Simmons told ACSO Deputy William Hill that the victim “threw a glass at him” and stated the she “hit him with a tower fan.”

Hill reported that Simmons had scratches on his arms and neck, and that he was the main aggressor.

Judge Kristine Van Vorst ordered Simmons to be released on his own recognizance under the conditions he not contact the victim or possess any weapons.
