Gainesville Man with Prior Conviction for Aggravated Battery Arrested Again for Similar Offense

Alachua County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested Carlos Pena, 58, Monday and charged him with aggravated battery with a prior conviction.
The victim told police she went to pick something up that Pena didn’t want her to have, and he slapped her in the face, causing her to fall down.
Pena reportedly hit the victim in the back of the head after she fell and then threw her belongings outside and locked the door.
Police observed visible injuries on the victim, consistent with her statements.
Pena was released from jail after posting a $15,000 bond.
In 2019, Pena was convicted of aggravated battery for shoving a pregnant minor to the ground. Judge Mark Mosley, who later became chief judge and is now retired, sentenced him to two years of probation, court records show.
