Gainesville Man With Prior Convictions Gets Six Months in Jail for Sending Woman to Hospital

Judge James Colaw sentenced Willie Earl McCarthy, 54, Tuesday, accepting his plea agreement of six months in jail followed by two years of probation, in addition to a substance abuse and mental health evaluation, and a conviction for felony battery by a repeat offender.
According to the arrest report, McCarthy beat the victim, causing her to sustain cuts and bruises and require hospital treatment.
McCarthy later made contradictory statements to police, the arrest report shows.

In 2009, McCarthy was convicted of two counts of felony battery and resisting an officer, court records show.
In 2021, McCarthy was convicted of misdemeanor battery for pushing a woman to the ground and stomping her head in front of two witnesses who intervened. He was sentenced to one year of probation, court records show.
With credit for time served in jail, McCarthy will be released in October of this year.
