GPD Arrests Man for Running Away After Traffic Stop at Bella Vista Apartments

On July 23, Gainesville Police Department officers arrested 20-year-old Argelio Enrique Roble and charged him with resisting an officer without violence.

Officer Larry Prunty was on patrol in the area of Bella Vista Apartments when he initiated a traffic stop on a red pick up truck for allegedly failing to use turn signals.

Prunty reported that his patrol lights were activated and that he was accompanied by a Spanish speaking officer who gave commands over the intercom to stop.

Prunty reported, “Upon the vehicle stopping, [Roble] exited the vehicle from the passenger side without LEO's commands. I gave commands to [Roble] to get back into the vehicle, which he refused. [Roble] then fled from me, running through the neighborhood until I was able to capture [him] near the leasing office of the neighborhood.”

Prunty reported that Roble “spontaneously stated he ran from LEO because of his immigration status.” 

GPD has not signed a 287(g) agreement to formally work with ICE, however, Prunty reported that Roble is “not a U.S. citizen so he was transported to [jail] where he was fingerprinted for identification.”

Roble’s first appearance form appears to show that Judge Susan Miller Jones set the bond at $2,500, and the words “ICE Hold” are scribbled out. He currently remains in the Alachua County Jail.
