GPD Receives Over 35 Complaints of Child Exploitation on Instagram in Two Months
Today, the Gainesville Police Department made a post of their Facebook account that states, “In the last two months, Gainesville PD has received over 35 complaints of child exploitation occurring on Instagram. What is your child doing online right now? Have the conversation today.”
According to the Instagram website, they “report all apparent child pornography to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.”
According to an April 2025 article by the Pulitzer Center, “At least a dozen accounts on Instagram, totaling hundreds of thousands of followers, were openly sharing AI-generated images of children and adolescents in sexualized poses, a banned behavior that Meta's safety systems were unable to detect.”
According to a June 2023 article by the Wall Street Journal, Instagram, “helps connect and promote a vast network of accounts openly devoted to the commission and purchase of underage-sex content.”
