Homeless Man Fights Amazon Driver in Downtown Streets

Updated Mar 31 | Dunson was not prosecuted and his charges were dropped.

In a racist and hate-fueled attack on Thursday morning, Grace Marketplace resident David Allen Dunson, 42, verbally and physically assaulted a Black man working for Amazon package delivery, calling him the n-word among other derogatory terms before attacking him.

According to the police report, Dunson approached the driver’s vehicle while he was stopped at a red light and attacked him through the window. He then made his way to the driver’s side while screaming racial slurs and began physically assaulting the man again, causing him to defend himself.

Video shows that during the physical altercation, the driver swung Dunson to the ground and punched him in the face before falling to the ground himself. It then appears that Dunson attempts to grapple the driver’s legs before they both get up into a wrestling position.

At this point, a Gainesville Police Department (GPD) deputy has arrived on the scene and tackles Dunson to the ground, causing the driver to fall on top of the officer. The driver proceeds to get up, pick up his keys, put on his glasses, and walk towards his vehicle.

After the altercation, the officer found a small glass pipe in Dunson’s backpack, which reportedly contained burned brillo and burn marks.

Dunson has previous charges for aggravated battery, evidence destroying, firing a weapon, and guilty adjunctions for battery, property damage, and possession of synthetic cannabinoids.

Dunson is currently being charged with attempted burglary of an occupied conveyance and drug possession.

Dunson had his first appearance in court scheduled for yesterday; however, he requested it be moved to today for mental health reasons. If he attends, his bond will be set.

Update: Dunson did not appear on the 17th.
