Judge Sentences Alachua County Man to Four Years in Prison after Jury Found him Guilty of Rape
Last week, Jean Jonathan Francois, 20, was sentenced to four years in prison following a jury conviction in December for sexual battery (rape).
Alachua County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested Francois for the offense on August 29, 2024.
Francois was released roughly a week following his arrest after posting a bond of $250,000.
Prosecutors had a large amount of evidence against Francois. According to court records, their evidence included testimony from medical staff, police, police reports, a sexual assault kit and interview completed by the victim, screenshots of texts and jail calls.
On December 10, 2025, a jury found Francois guilty of committing rape.
After the jury came to their decision, Francois was reprimanded back into the custody of the Alachua County Jail pending a pre-sentence investigation.
Francois faced a maximum of 15 years in prison, but Judge Denise Ferrero ultimately sentenced him to just four years on March 2, 2026. Francois’ prison sentence is followed by two years of sex offender probation. The probation form states Francois was “designated and sentenced as a youthful offender.”

As of now, Francois remains in the Alachua County Jail awaiting transportation to a Florida Department of Corrections facility.
