Man Arrested for Slapping Woman and Making Disturbing Threats
On August 18, 2025, Gainesville Police Department officers arrested Rolando Morales-Hernandez, 23, and charged him with aggravated battery.
According to the arrest report, Morales-Hernandez slapped the victim during an argument, leaving a visible bruise, before grabbing a knife and pointing it at his own throat.
Morales-Hernandez reportedly threatened to commit suicide before telling the victim that if he was arrested and released, he would kill her and their children.
One of the victim’s family members witnessed the incident and corroborated Morales-Hernandez slapping the victim before threatening to hurt himself and others.
Morales-Hernandez reportedly told police that he slapped the victim "gently" and didn't want to cause physical harm. He reportedly said that he threatens to commit suicide to "calm" the victim down when she "does not listen."

On October 10, 2025, Morales-Hernandez posted a $25,000 bond that was set by Senior Judge Aymer "Buck" Curtin.
In November 2025, Morales-Hernandez's bond was revoked because he did not appear at a scheduled pretrial conference.
On December 29, 2025, legal counsel for Gary Calhoun, Morales-Hernandez's bondsman, made a motion to set aside the bond forfeiture, as the reason Morales-Hernandez did not appear was because he was taken into custody by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
Judge James Colaw cancelled the bond forfeiture but affirmed that Calhoun will be responsible if there are any future costs in the case "associated with transporting [Morales-Hernandez] to the Alachua County Detention Facility."
As of now, Morales-Hernandez's case remains open. He may have been deported to his home country of Mexico, as he doesn't currently appear to be in ICE custody, however, his exact whereabouts are unconfirmed.
