Man Arrested on Years-Old Battery Warrant
Dayne Tyler Baucom, 33, was arrested on Sunday on a years-old warrant for misdemeanor battery.
On June 24, 2022, Gainesville Police Department Officer Thomas Kooplikkattu responded to multiple calls about an active battery.
The victim reportedly had previous disturbances with Baucom over the prior months but nothing that arose to the level of that incident he was arrested for.
According to the arrest report, as the victim was riding her bicycle when Baucom approached and began blocking her ability to move while yelling homophobic slurs at her.
The victim attempted to walk past Baucom and he reportedly shoved her and punched her in the face multiple times.
The victim had visible injuries to her nose and a witness told police they saw Baucom yelling slurs and hitting her.
In his police interview, Baucom recalled a prior incident where the victim called him the same slur he called her and that in response he attempted to spit at her but missed.
Regarding the incident he was arrested for, Baucom reportedly admitted to approaching the victim and said he consumed alcohol prior to the incident. Baucom changed his story multiple times, first saying the incident was verbal but then claiming the victim shoved him first and he shoved back in self-defense.
Baucom was released from jail about a week after his arrest on a $5,000 bond.
In August 2022, prosecutors formally filed the battery charge.
Baucom was supposed to appear for a pretrial conference on November 30, 2022, but he never showed up. A warrant for his arrest was issued, and it wasn’t served until March 8, 2026.

Baucom has a pretrial conference set for April 26. He remains in the Alachua County Jail on a $1,000 bond.
