Man Held in Pretrial Detention for Beating Child With Belt

Alachua County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested Jamel Dashaun Lovan Robinson, 22, last week and charged him with aggravated child abuse.
The State Attorney’s Office filed a pretrial detention motion on Robinson that states he “beat the victim striking her approximately 35 times with a belt over a 23 minute period of time. The victim was held up by her hair. [Robinson] did this in front of other children who were laughing while this was occurring.”
Robinson said at his first appearance that his actions were “just discipline.”
Judge David Kreider granted the State’s motion Thursday morning.
