Man on Probation for Gun Charge Arrested for Domestic Violence
Gregory Tyrone Hill (ACSO Jail)

Gainesville Police Department officers arrested Gregory Tyrone Hill, 35, on Monday and charged him with misdemeanor domestic battery, felony property damage, robbery by sudden snatching (felony) and hindering police communications (felony).

According to the arrest report, Hill was agitated with the victim and punched her in the lip while she was driving her vehicle. The victim tried to stop the vehicle but Hill reportedly pushed her leg towards the gas pedal to keep the car driving.

The arrest report continues, “The victim stated [Hill] then began attempting to pull her out of the vehicle through the passenger side door. The victim stated she was able to get out of the vehicle, when [Hill] snatched her phone and [her] car keys out of her hand, breaking her fingernail while in the act. The victim advised [Hill] tossed her phone in the bushes, which [she] later retrieved out of the bushes. The victim stated she could not find her key fob the vehicle.”

Later on at the victim’s house, Hill reportedly took her phone when she tried to call the police and tossed it. The victim got her phone and went in her residence. Once inside, Hill reportedly threatened to break in with a baseball bat, broke the taillight on her vehicle and caused a dent to her driver’s door causing it to not close properly.

The victim had visible injuries to her lip, neck, arm and hands.

When approached by police, Hill reportedly made a "spontaneous statement advising he took the cell phone and car keys from the victim because she attacked him.” The key fob was found in his pocket.

The Alachua County Jail is holding Hill on a $220,000 bond.

In September 2024, Hill was arrested and charged with child cruelty without great bodily harm and aggravated domestic assault. The arrest report states that Hill was arguing with the victim about debit cards (money the victim used to pay his phone bill).

During the argument, Hill pulled a gun on the victim, who was next to their 8-year-old granddaughter, and fired a shot into the floor. The round reportedly "went through the floor and into the wall by the front door. The round [ricocheted] off the wall and landed on the floor in the walkway in front of the front door."

The charges were later dropped and Hill was sentenced to three years of probation on a withheld adjudication for firing a weapon in a building. An officer reported that they believe Hill's actions caused "long lasting mental and emotional trauma" to the child victim.
