Man Posts Bond while Facing Charges for Possessing Exploitative Images of Kids
Matt McMillin

Matt McMillin, 62, was released from the Alachua County Jail on August 14 after posting a $275,000 bond, court records show.

McMillin is facing 10 counts of possession of child sexual abuse material and one count of using a two-way communication device to facilitate a felony.

According to a press release by the Gainesville Police Department (GPD), detectives found McMillin to be in possession of a Dropbox account that contained the exploitative videos or images.

Dropbox is a cloud-based service for file storage and sharing.

According to GPD, “McMillin admitted ownership of the Dropbox account but advised he didn’t know how the content ended up in the account. McMillin stated only one other person could have access to the Dropbox account but was adamant that they weren’t responsible. McMillin also could not provide a reason as to how his associated cloud storage account contained similar content. Despite not admitting to possessing the child sexual abuse material, McMillin did admit to previously seeing child sexual abuse material on the internet.”

GPD’s press release said they want “parents to be aware that children are being solicited and exploited through social networking and messaging apps” and said parents should “have age-appropriate conversations with their children about the dangers of the internet.”

Prior to his release from jail, McMillin’s attorney, Logan Doll, motioned to reduce his bond.

The motion says McMillin was born in Wichita, Kansas, and has lived in Gainesville for the past five years.

According to the motion, McMillin is self-employed; however, it also states he is employed as a construction superintendent with Sofena Construction, and his supervisor was holding down his job while he was in jail.

Judge James Colaw denied the motion, but McMillin posted the high bond anyway.
