Jason Lee Saul, 40, was convicted of vehicular homicide while driving under the influence Tuesday and sentenced to seven years in prison followed by seven years of probation.

Court records indicate Saul was preparing for a trial, but he decided to plead no contest in a deal with prosecutors that was accepted by Judge William Davis.

According to court documents, Saul, who was later determined by a blood sample to be high on cocaine, rear-ended Andra Driggers while he was stopped at a traffic light on US Highway 441. Saul was driving between 63 and 74 miles per hour (MPH) in a 50 MPH zone when he collided with the victim.

Multiple witnesses observed Saul exiting his pickup truck after the crash.

Saul was not arrested until January 2023, court records show.

In June 2023, Saul made a motion to reduce his $100,000 bond. The motion states, “Defense counsel has watched the tape and disagrees with the conclusions made by the [Florida Highway Patrol] officer who ordered the warrant which was used to secure a sample of Mr. Saul's blood. The defense understands that a terrible tragedy occurred in this matter and that two families are suffering, but believes that this tragedy was not the result of a crime.”  Judge Davis denied the motion.

Saul is scheduled to be released from prison in 2032.
