Man Sentenced to One Year in Jail for Domestic Violence Probation Violation After Fleeing High Springs Police on Four-Wheeler
On September 16, Judge Adam Lee sentenced Shawn Monroe Santerfeit, 34, to the maximum sentence of one year in jail for violating his domestic violence probation, in addition to three-month jail sentence for resisting an officer without violence that will run concurrently (at the same time).
The High Springs Police Department (HSPD) initially charged Santerfeit with fleeing or attempting to elude a law enforcement officer and reckless driving but he was not convicted.
In February 2025, HSPD officers arrested Santerfeit after a witness called the police stating he grabbed the victim, pushed her and was yelling in her face. The victim told police that Santerfeit got in her face and head butted her in the nose. He was later convicted after he pleaded no contest to misdemeanor domestic battery. Judge Kristine Van Vorst imposed a one-year probation sentence pursuant to a plea agreement between Santerfeit and the State.
In October 2025, Judge Susan Miller-Jones approved a probation-violation warrant against Santerfeit after he reportedly failed to enroll in batterer’s intervention and comply with other basic conditions.
On May 28, 2026, HSPD Officer Montavis Miner observed Santerfeit operating a four-wheeler along the east side of US Highway 441. After confirming he had a warrant, Miner attempted to initiate a traffic stop and Santerfeit started fleeing on the four-wheeler. He drove across multiple parking lots at a high-rate of speed, allegedly demonstrating a “willful and wanton disregard for the safety of persons and property.” He advanced towards a local business and entered a field in a wooded area where Miner was reportedly unable to pursue with his patrol vehicle.
Santerfeit was arrested on the warrant on July 28, 2026.
Santerfeit resolved his probation violation case with an open-plea of admission and his resisting police case with an open no contest plea.
With credit for roughly three months of time served, Santerfeit will likely be released sometime during the summer next year.
