Man Sentenced to Probation and Mental Health Treatment Following Stalking Conviction

On October 7, Dana Shawn Hunt II, 35, was convicted of domestic stalking following a no contest plea.
Facing up to a year in jail for the misdemeanor charge, Hunt took a plea deal that was accepted by Judge Susan Miller-Jones.
Hunt will be required to undergo a mental health evaluation and treatment and complete a batterer’s intervention program.

According to the police report, on September 7, 2024, Gainesville Police Department Officer George Connolly responded to the victim’s residence after getting reports of a domestic disturbance. Connolly arrived on the scene to find Hunt with Officer Carl Leibrandt.
Connolly approached and asked Hunt why he was at the victim’s house. Hunt stated he had “something important to talk to her about.” Connolly told Hunt to stand by with Leibrandt while he interviewed the victim.
The victim explained that she broke up with Hunt after discovering he was unfaithful.
After the breakup, Hunt began excessively calling the victim, forcing her to block him. Hunt began contacting her from different phone numbers. Hunt even used Cash App to message the victim, as the app allows users to attach notes to requests for money, which Hunt used to ask the victim to contact him.
Connolly reported, “The victim also stated that she bought [Hunt’s] phone and is currently paying for his service. She then showed me her service account with [Hunt’s] phone attached. The victim stated she had access to his call logs and text messages but was unable to provide them at the time of this report. Throughout my conversation with the victim, she was in distress; she was crying and terrified of the continual efforts [Hunt] has taken to contact her. The messages and means used by [Hunt] serve no legitimate purpose and have caused substantial emotional distress to the victim.”
Connolly and Leibrandt didn’t arrest Hunt at the scene, and the report doesn’t specify why they lacked probable cause.
On October 20, 2024, Connolly charged Hunt via sworn complaint.
On December 12, 2024, the State Attorney’s Office formally filed a domestic stalking charge against Hunt, and he was issued a summons to appear, not a warrant for arrest, court records show.

Hunt attended all required court appearances until he failed to appear for a pretrial conference on August 26, 2025, and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

Hunt was arrested on September 29, 2025, meaning he spent nine days in jail before his case was resolved.
