Man Sentenced to Three Years in Prison for Abusive Sexual Contact at Eglin Air Force Base After Feds Cut Plea Deal Reducing Child Sexual Abuse Charge

PENSACOLA - On July 28, Jose Ramiro Vasquez was convicted of abusive sexual contact and sentenced to three years in prison, his maximum prison sentence after federal prosecutors signed a plea deal reducing the initial child sexual abuse charge.

On July 15, 2025, a federal grand jury indicted Vasquez on a count of knowingly engaging in sexual contact with another person who had not attained the age of 12. Vasquez was arrested in Oklahoma and ordered detained pending trial.  

According to court documents, “The offense occurred while the victim resided on Eglin Air Force Base, which is a special maritime or territorial jurisdiction of the United States. In or about June of 2019, [Vasquez] knowingly engaged in or caused illegal contact with the victim noted in the Indictment, as such contact is defined below, which involved the touching of genitalia. At the time of the offense, the victim, due to her age, was incapable of appraising the nature of the conduct committed by [Vasquez].” 

At this time, it’s unclear if Vasquez was an active-duty member of the U.S. military at the time of his offense. 

The sentence was administered by United States District Judge M. Casey Rodgers, who further imposed one year of supervised release and required him to register as a sex offender. 

The plea agreement was negotiated by John P. Heekin’s Office of the Northern District of Florida, which also serves Gainesville.

Vasquez was represented by criminal defense attorneys Billy Coyle and D. Todd Doss.

The federal government generally doesn’t publish photos of defendants but one should be available when Vasquez registers as a sex offender.
