Man Sentenced to Three Years Probation for Domestic Battery by Strangulation

Matthew Alexander Shirley, 22, was sentenced to three years of probation last week after being granted a withheld adjudication for domestic battery by strangulation.
On March 2, Shirley grabbed the victim during an argument, according to the arrest report. Two days later, he pushed the victim into their bed and choked her.
The arrest report states Shirley was caught on surveillance camera pushing the victim into the bedroom.

The victim went to the hospital and confronted Shirley over text about choking her. He replied, “That wasn't on purpose seriously.”
Shirley’s probation conditions include the completion of a mental health evaluation and a batterers intervention program.
