Man Transported from Levy Jail to Alachua Jail on Judge's Order
John Laurence Shryock III (ACSO Jail)

Editor’s Notes: It’s unclear if the victim in the Alachua County cases is the same person as the victim in the Levy County case.

John Laurence Shryock III, 43, was booked into the Alachua County Jail Friday morning for an upcoming hearing in his felony battery case. The case is charged as a felony due to Shryock’s prior battery convictions out of Pasco and Levy Counties. He also has an open case in Levy County for violating a stalking injunction.

On March 26, 2025, Shryock reportedly contacted the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office and advised that the victim struck him and that he “hit the fuck out of” the victim. A deputy made contact with the victim and saw she had a bloody mouth and injured teeth, showing signs of a possible concussion. She was transported to Shands for treatment.

Judge Jonathan Ramsey set Shryock’s bond at $25,000 but Judge William Davis later released him on recognizance after Shryock’s public defender made a bond reduction motion.

On April 12, 2026, Shryock was booked into the Levy County Jail for failing to pay child support. He then reportedly used his "assigned inmate telephone" at the Levy County Jail to illegally call the a woman who established a restraining order, i.e., a stalking injunction against him.

On April 21, 2026, Judge Robert Groeb revoked Shryock’s pretrial release in his felony battery case and set his new bond at $100,000, which is on top of the bond of over $30,000 he has in Levy County.

Groeb ordered authorities in the Levy County Jail to transport Shryock to the Alachua County Jail for his June 1 case management hearing.
