“Peace Isn’t the Absence of Noise” Pastor Posts himself with Bible Following Felony Bond Release, Wants Jury Trial

The head pastor of Ignite Life Center (ILC) Church, Mark Vega, 55, doesn’t appear to be sweating his recent felony arrest on social media.

Nearly two weeks ago, Vega was formally charged with one count of failing to report suspected child abuse after he failed to report several child sexual abuse incidents that occurred at ILC. Vega, who was charged by the Gainesville Police Department (GPD), held a position as chaplain at the police agency during the same time he failed to report sexual abuse incidents at ILC.

Vega was arrested Monday afternoon after turning himself in. The warrant was issued on Thursday.

Vega was released from jail roughly three hours after his arrest after posting a $50,000 bond. Vega avoided attending a first appearance hearing because he had a bond set on his warrant.

The day after his arrest, Vega made a story post on Instagram that showed him reading a Bible. The post states, “Starting the day with gratitude. Peace isn't the absence of noise... it's the presence of God.”

The same day, Vega’s lawyer, Michael Hines, filed a notice of appearance, a demand for discovery, a plea of not guilty and a request for a jury trial.

The demand for discovery tells prosecutors that Vega’s defense wants all evidence they have in the case.

The demand for a jury trial doesn’t necessarily guarantee the case will go to trial. Vega could still accept a plea deal from prosecutors if one is offered, but the move signals he currently intends to take his case to trial.

Vega has a case management hearing scheduled for January 12, 2026.
