An alleged gang member is being held without bond on multiple gun-related charges.

Gainesville Police Department (GPD) officers arrested Drayon Drevell Duncan, 21, on May 2 on a warrant for discharging a machine gun, shooting into a dwelling, discharging a firearm from a vehicle within 1,000 feet of a person, and two counts of attempted homicide.

The alleged incident occurred on the night of September 29, 2024, but Duncan’s warrant wouldn’t be issued until May 2025.

According to the sworn complaint, GPD “confirmed that numerous of the bullet projectiles struck multiple occupied residential apartments.” One of the victims was in the process of taking the trash out when the shooting started. Nobody was hit by gunfire.

Duncan reportedly sent threatening messages to the two victims for several days leading up to the shooting.

A few minutes after the shooting, Duncan sent the victims messages taunting them about it.

GPD Detective Matthew Quinn reported that Duncan “is a self-proclaimed ‘Village Green’ gang member and commonly associates with other known Village Green gang members. Further review of the communications confirmed that [Duncan] committed this act against [the victims] because several hours prior to the shooting, [one of the victims] openly disrespected numerous dead gang members when in communication with [Duncan]. [The victims] claim associations with ‘The South’ gang, which is an opposing gang to the Village Green gang. This shooting incident was a gang-sanctioned criminal incident in order to further the reputation and credibility of the Village Green gang.”

The State Attorney’s Office filed a pretrial detention motion on Duncan that was granted by Judge Denise Ferrero Wednesday.
