On October 9, Julian Lee Myhand, 36, was sentenced for an incident that occurred in August following a no contest plea and conviction for aggravated assault.

Myhand took a plea deal that was accepted by Judge James Colaw, where he technically received the maximum sentence, five years in prison; however, because Myhand qualifies as a prison release reoffender and habitual violent felony offender, a judge could potentially impose a sentence that's harsher than the maximum. Under the conditions of his plea deal, Myhand didn't have to worry about the court imposing a harsher sentence due to his criminal background.

According to the arrest report, Myhand and the victim were at the witness’ house when they got into an argument about Myhand leaving. Myhand “stated that he will shoot her and pulled out a firearm,” the arrest report states.

Once detained by police, Myhand denied having a firearm during the incident, and a search showed he had no gun on him.

A second witness who lived in a neighboring house told police he heard Myhand and the victim arguing and that he threatened to shoot her. The second witness stated Myhand came over to his yard and said he was “about that life today.”

This isn’t the first time Myhand has been arrested for aggravated assault, with a prior conviction of the same charge for an incident that took place in July 2017. Myhand was staying the night at a male family member’s (the victim's) house. The victim was sleeping when he woke up to Myhand touching his forehead and stating, “I’ll burn you.” As the victim further awakened, he observed a black revolver exposed out of Myhand’s pocket. The victim told police the gun was loaded, stating Myhand took five bullets out of the six-shot revolver, leaving one in the chamber. Myhand then stated, “I’ll kill your pussy ass,” and pulled the trigger three times while pointing the gun at the victim.

A witness told police he saw Myhand “snap” the trigger three times while pointing the gun at the victim.

Police who responded described Myhand as repeatedly making suicidal statements. Myhand stated the gun did not belong to him. He was initially charged with attempted murder, but the State Attorney's Office decided to prosecute him for a lesser offense, for which he was sentenced to three years of probation. However, Myhand later violated his probation and was sentenced to 15 months in prison in July 2018.

In August 2022, Myhand was convicted of burglary with assault or battery and sentenced to three years in prison. According to the arrest report, Myhand approached the victim, who was in a vehicle in a store parking lot, and began to sexually harass her before reaching into the car and sexually assaulting her. The victim was unable to roll up the window because it was broken and the incident was partly witnessed by her co-worker walking out of the store.
