“The dispenser is free, accessible to anyone, and will be restocked as needed,” said ACSO Public Information Officer Lisa Sacaccio. “People can grab the Narcan no questions asked.”

Sacaccio said the dispensers will be available during the jail business hours (6 am - 11 pm daily).

Gainesville Fire & Rescue Community Health Director Brandy Stone said the dispenser “reduces some of the stigma around substance abuse in our community and opens up conversation about substance use resources to help guide folks into recovery, whatever that might mean for them.”

Sheriff Chad Scott said, “I lost my son to an opioid overdose. I think that if I could prevent any other parent from going through what I went through, I’m all for that… They can save their own life… Grab a can and take it home, and you know, maybe you can save someone else’s life.”
