The Alachua County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO) issued a response to GnvInfo yesterday regarding a public records request for all emails and text messages sent and received by former Sheriff Clovis Watson.

Public records request to the Alachua County Sheriff's Office for all of former Sheriff Clovis Watson's emails and texts

According to ACSO, “The cost to duplicate these records is $52,835.50 based on 1,093.45 hours at the hourly rate of $48.32. The breakdown is 1 minute and 30 seconds per email or text for a total of 43,738.”

ACSO declined requests for a fee reduction or waiver, stating, “It is the policy of ACSO to maintain consistency in our processing and response to public record requests, including the collection of fees.”

ACSO said they must review all emails, so viewing or inspecting them without duplication wouldn’t impact the cost.
