Another Teenager Killed in Alachua

An 18-year-old Newberry High School student died from a gunshot wound to the chest on Saturday night.

At 10:00 pm, the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO) responded to a shooting which occurred in the area of 100 NW 253rd St. The victim was initially given medical aid at the scene of the crime; however, he succumbed to his wounds in the hospital.

This is the second shooting to take the life of a teenager in Alachua this year. Last month, a 17-year-old was killed at the Pointe 23 apartments.

As of this writing, no arrests have been reported.

ACSO said they want “information, not your name,” as a message to anyone who may know something that could lead to the apprehension of any suspects. They requested that anyone who may be knowledgeable of the situation call 352-955-1818 or to remain anonymous call Crime Stoppers at 352-372-7867.
