Convicted Attempted Murder Arrested for Disorderly Conduct
Terrick Grimes (ACSO Jail)

Convicted attempted murderer Terrick Grimes, 36, was arrested early Sunday morning by Gainesville Police Department (GPD) officers and charged with disorderly conduct, a misdemeanor.

In 2008, an 18-year-old Grimes was facing life in prison for charges of attempted premeditated murder, robbery with a deadly weapon, grand theft, resisting an officer without violence, attempted robbery and burglary. Pleading no contest, Judge Peter Sieg sentenced him to 20 years in prison followed by ten years of probation.

Grimes' Prior Criminal Convictions (Alachua County Court Records)

Grimes agreed to testify truthfully in a co-defendant’s trial but he later was convicted of perjury for making contradictory statements during an official proceeding. Court records show his co-defendants settled with no contest plea deals, indicating the conviction may have stemmed from Grimes’ statements during a pretrial proceeding.

Grimes committed the attempted murder at 16 years old with two other individuals, 15-year-old Aldrick Robinson and 17-year-old Thaddeaus Hall. The trio was arrested in 2005 after pizza delivery driver Steven Allen was found severely beaten and left for dead.

On May 30, 2008, Grimes “fell to his knees begging for forgiveness in court… before being sentenced,” according to a report by the Gainesville Sun.

According to the Sun, “In a victim impact statement, Allen's father said his son has what appear to be permanent disabilities, including brain damage affecting his kidneys. Steven Allen is no longer able to drive, has been forced to move home with his elderly parents, must use a cane to steady himself while walking and continues to lose teeth as a result of the attack… During the attack, Allen offered to give the teens the $25 he had, but the beating continued, authorities said.”

The Sun reported that "the attack ended after Allen began gurgling. Grimes later told investigators he thought the sound indicated that Allen was dead or dying. He then stomped on Allen's head so hard that he left a print mark on Allen's head and injured his own knee so severely that he had to be helped away from the scene."

After the attack, the teenage assailants reportedly pushed Allen into a creek and left him for dead.

Grimes reportedly "admitted to planning the crime, finding a gun to use and then hiding the weapon."

The Sun reported that Judge Sieg was “given a brief overview of Grimes' childhood, including his mother's apparent drug addiction and death from AIDS followed by years of living with relatives, including time in homeless shelters.”

Grimes was released from prison on April 29, 2025.

On March 1, 2026, around 3:00 a.m., GPD Officer Jarrell Delancy was on foot patrol near the Kava Hookah Lounge on University Ave.

According to Delancy, Grimes was “belligerent, yelling, and cursing at the employees at the location.” Grimes reportedly took off his shirt and continued yelling while his hands were clinched as if he wanted to fight.

The arrest report states, “Law Enforcement went and made contact with [Grimes], telling him to leave. [Grimes] continued to yell and make several threats out loud and almost fought a random patron before being stopped by law enforcement. [Grimes] left, but came back less than five minutes later, continuing to yell at staff, causing a scene… making several loud threats, and acting as if he was about to fight citizens. After this interaction, law enforcement detained [Grimes] due to his behavior.”

According to his first appearance form, Grimes was not interviewed due to him being combative. He remains in the Alachua County Jail on a $5,000 bond.
