Gainesville Man Arrested for Knife Threats

Gainesville Police Department officers arrested Luis Narvaez, 42, Tuesday morning and charged him with aggravated domestic assault.
According to the arrest report, the victim told police she and Narvaez were in an altercation during the prior night, causing her to go to her sister’s residence until the morning. When the victim returned, Narvaez reportedly accused her of cheating, prompting the victim to call her sister to dispel his allegation.
After the victim called her sister, she walked into the kitchen. While seated on the couch, Narvaez “thought [the victim] was laughing at him, so [he] stabbed a knife into the living room table,” the arrest report states. Narvaez allegedly told the victim he could “stab her in the side of the neck, and friends, neighbors, and police would be unable to help.” In fear for her life, the victim called the police.
According to the arrest report, Narvaez verbally refused to come to the front door when police arrived at the residence, but they were able to get in after the victim gave them a key.
Officer Thomas Reynolds reported that Narvaez “was observed sitting on the couch, and there was a knife stabbed into the top of the table (as described by the victim) that was within reach of [Narvaez]. The knife was part of a common multi-tool. There was a strong odor of paint in the residence, and [Narvaez] appeared to be applying paint to a laptop. [Narvaez] was argumentative, and he grabbed the knife and pulled it out from the top of the table while he remained seated on the couch. [Narvaez] was ordered to put the knife down, and [he] folded the knife closed and reopened the multi-tool to the pliers and tossed it back on [the] table. Post-Miranda, [Narvaez] denied making any threatening statements to [the victim], and stated that he would never do that. [Narvaez] stated that he had been using the multi-tool’s knife to remove portions of the laptop.”
The Alachua County Jail is holding Narvaez on a $50,000 bond.
