Gainesville Man Serving Four Year Prison Sentence After Getting Caught Strangling Woman on Camera

On October 11, 2024, Gainesville Police Department officers arrested Lexly Miguel Roberts, 24, and charged him with domestic battery by strangulation and battery by repeat offender, both felonies.

Officers responded after the Combined Communications Center received a call from a child stating "daddy is trying to kill mommy" and "daddy is choking mommy." The dispatcher noted that a female voice could be heard screaming in the background.

Officer Joshua Harmon reported that he, Sergeant Stephanie Pridgen, and Officer Larry Prunty found Roberts attacking the victim when they arrived at the scene. 

Once Roberts and the victim were separated, Harmon observed that she had visible injuries. The victim said Roberts punched her several times and choked her unconscious after becoming upset about her new boyfriend. Surveillance footage further proved her account, as it showed Roberts choking the victim. 

Roberts has prior convictions for domestic battery, aggravated assault and more.

Roberts was held in jail without bond as his case was ongoing due to prosecutors filing a successful pretrial detention motion.

Prosecutors later filed a count of false imprisonment along with the other charges.

Roberts faced up to 15 years in prison.

On March 25, 2025, Roberts took a no contest plea deal in which he was convicted of all charges and sentenced to four years in prison followed by three years of probation.

Roberts has served two prior prison sentences in Florida.

According to Roberts' sentencing sheet, prosecutors indicated the victim was in agreement with the plea deal they negotiated with Roberts' defense.
