Gainesville Man Held in Pretrial Detention on False Imprisonment, Aggravated Battery and Assault Charges

Luis Enrique Quinones, 38, was arrested on March 28 and charged with false imprisonment, aggravated battery and aggravated assault. 

The victim told police Quinones became jealous upon hearing her talking to a male co-worker over the phone. Quinones approached the victim while taking a fighting stance and struck her in the face multiple times.

The victim attempted to separate herself from Quinones by locking herself in her bedroom. The victim was unable to close her bedroom because Quinones reportedly tried to force his way inside. The victim went to her bedside table to grab her charger as she was about to leave the residence. Quinones reportedly flipped a mattress on top of her and pinned her to the ground with it. Quinones eventually got off of the mattress and left the scene. 

The victim had multiple lacerations on her face and bruises covering her body. 

The State Attorney’s Office filed a motion of pretrial detention on Quinones which was granted by Judge David Kreider on April 1.

Update | July 30, 2026: Quinones is currently in a prison work camp. He was ultimately convicted of felony battery by a repeat offender in a no-contest plea deal where he was sentenced to three years in prison. He was also sentenced to five years in prison for violating probation on the original charges of possessing a weapon or ammo as a convicted felon and drug possession. However, the sentences are concurrent, meaning he'll likely be released in 2029.
