Gainesville Man Posts Bond After Domestic Battery Arrest

Gainesville Police Department officers arrested Robert Strappier III, 25, on Friday and charged him with misdemeanor domestic battery.
The victim told police that she and Strappier were arguing over their rent, and he headbutted her in the face, causing a visible injury in the form of a busted lip.
Officer Michael Latulipe described the victim as “visibly distraught.”
According to the arrest report, Strappier told police he “never punched her” when asked about the headbutt allegation and busted lip.

Strappier was released from jail shortly after his arrest after posting a $30,000 bond, court records show. His release conditions ban him from contacting the victim or possessing guns.

On August 31, Strappier was charged via sworn complaint with improperly exhibiting a firearm, but no warrant has been issued. The Alachua County Sheriff’s Office responded to a Circle K after getting a call about Strappier improperly exhibiting a gun. According to the sworn complaint, Strappier happened to see the caller inside the store and told him, “I should do you like I should have done your son.” The caller told police he saw Strappier with a gun in his waistband when he went to his car. Strappier reportedly stared the caller down in an “angry and threatening manner.” The caller said he knew Strappier as a friend to his son. Deputy James Loethen reported that Strappier’s actions didn’t meet the criteria for aggravated assault but did fall under the category of improperly exhibiting a firearm, a misdemeanor. The sworn complaint was written shortly before the change in Florida law to allow the open carry of a firearm.

Strappier was convicted of misdemeanor domestic battery in 2020 and sentenced to a year of probation. The arrest report states Strappier and the victim were arguing about not having intercourse that morning, and he told her he “needed a new girlfriend,” causing her to tell him to move out. This enraged Strappier, and he struck the victim while she held her infant child. Strappier reportedly choked the victim, threatened to kill her and punched their refrigerator twice. Strappier was initially facing a count of child cruelty, but the charge was dropped.

In his current domestic violence case, Strappier’s public defender has told the State Attorney’s Office that they have 15 days from Monday to produce evidence they plan to use in prosecution.

Strappier appears to address his new case on his Facebook page, stating, “I ain’t clearing up ain’t shxt believe what y’all wanna shidd bitches lie everyday shidd just know that charge getting drop 💪 💯. Don’t ask me about shxt 💯.” The Facebook story features a song by rapper Lil Durk in the background where the artist sings, “False accusation, why they name droppin?” The song also has references to posting bond.

Strappier describes himself as a comedian on his Facebook, but court records show he’s employed as a groundskeeper.
