Gainesville Man to Spend Decade in Prison After Long Line of Arrests Spanning Alachua and Bradford Counties
Tyree Christopher Young is set to spend the next ten years in prison following a long line of arrests in Alachua and Bradford Counties, primarily for domestic violence.
2021 Incident
In May 2021, Gainesville Police Department (GPD) officers arrested Young and charged him with robbery by sudden snatching, burglary, property damage and two counts of petty theft.
The arrest report alleged that during an argument with the victim about money, Young took her belongings and broke the door handle of her car. Young reportedly admitted to "taking the book bag from within the car, taking the wallet from the victim's hands, and to ripping the door handle off of the vehicle. [Young] stated that he was upset because he felt that the victim was unfaithful and he wanted his money back; they were going to get an apartment together and he gave her his share of the money."
The Eighth Judicial Circuit State Attorney’s Office (SAO8) declined to prosecute the case.
2023 Incident
In September 2023, GPD filed a sworn complaint against Young for burglary with assault/battery.
Officer Rebecca Holcomb reported that Young “initially knocked on the front door and the victim opened it to see who was there. She didn't expect [Young] (her ex-boyfriend since May or June of 2023) to be at the door because she didn't believe that he knew where she lived. The victim said that they lived together briefly at one point but it has been a long time and they do not have children together. When the victim realized it was [Young], she closed and locked the door, locking him outside. [Young] started kicking the bottom of door and in fact, the victim recorded video with her cell phone that she showed me. The video showed the door clearly bowing in with every kick. When [Young] couldn't get the door open, he ripped the screen off the window and made entry into the apartment through the window. The victim said that when she realized [Young] was coming in through the window, she ran and started pushing and hitting him in an attempt to keep him from getting in. She was unable to prevent his entry..."
After breaking in, Young reportedly grabbed the victim by the front of her shirt and jacket and swung her onto her bed. Young reportedly held her down while on the bed, causing the victim to defend herself by kicking him and grabbing his hands or arms. Young reportedly started yelling at the victim to let go and she said she would when he got off her.
The police report states the victim was eventually able to get away. Young reportedly went outside and picked up a large landscaping brick as the victim hid until he went away. The victim returned after Young left and found the brick on her bed along with an array of damaged items to include plants and mirrors. The victim was afraid and ran to a store where a friend was working.
Holcomb reported, “The victim sustained a small cut to inner, upper right lip. After I interviewed the victim, I took her back to her apartment. We found that the front door was open and the bottom, interior portion of the door had broken off... and was laying on the floor. The blinds from the window were broken and barely hanging on the wall still. I saw that the brick was still on her bed and all of the plants and mirrors, etc on the floor, broken… I attempted to call [Young] and I went to his mother’s apartment where he is thought to be staying but he wasn’t there.”
SAO8 declined to prosecute the case and Young was never arrested for this incident.
2024-2025 Incidents (same victim)
Young was arrested in July 2024. Information on the charges hasn’t been be verified, and a court records search would indicate the case was expunged. However, further reports would suggest the arrest stemmed for domestic violence.
In August 2024, Young was arrested again for violating a no-contact order with a female victim who is referenced as the victim in the expunged case. GPD Officer Chad Welch reported that he observed Young attending a meeting with the victim at the State Attorney’s Office in violation of the no-contact order. Young was out of jail in less than a week after posting a $5,000 bond.
On September 16, 2024, Young entered a no contest plea deal where he was granted a withheld adjudication for violating pretrial release conditions and sentenced to one year of probation. Young’s subsequent arrests put him in violation of his probation causing the adjudication to eventually be overturned to guilty.
The plea form indicates Young was not required to have no contact with the victim as part of his probation.

Just two days after Young entered the plea, GPD filed a sworn complaint against him for battering the victim yet again. The report states Young “has been charged prior to this event with battering the victim under similar circumstances at least one time…”
According to the report, between 9:30 and 10 p.m. on September 17, 2024, Young “aggressively approached the victim in a public place to confront her about not answering text messages that he sent to her. The victim attempted to walk away from [Young], and to return to the inside of her apartment, however [Young] followed her and aggressively attacked her. [Young] threw her to the ground, and grabbed her by the throat in such a manner as to render breathing impossible, while dragging her across the ground. This brutal attack was witnessed by a neighbor, who intervened in an attempt to protect the victim. After being confronted, [Young] fled the scene and was not located by law enforcement in the course of their initial response. The victim displayed bruising on her neck and redness in the whites of her eyes consistent with her statements.”
Young was charged with domestic battery by strangulation. He had a warrant issued for this incident but it didn’t get served until November 8, 2024, when Young was arrested for battering the victim once more.
Young was reportedly drinking and began wrestling with the victim over her phone. During the altercation, Young struck the victim with an open hand, knocking her nose ring out. As the altercation continued, Young punched the victim in the face causing her to bleed profusely from her nose.
Police responded after the victim knocked on the caller’s door bleeding and not speaking. She was transported to Shands ER in an ambulance. The bone at the base of the victim's nose was broken in two places, medical scans showed.
Young later tried to run away when police made contact with him. He was charged with aggravated battery and resisting without violence.
The arrest prompted a no-contact order that was active while Young was in jail.
In December 2024, Young was further charged for illegally calling the victim 43 times from jail. He was convicted on ten of the 43 charges.
In February 2025, Young was ultimately convicted for all his cases from the prior year in no contest plea deals and sentenced to five years of probation.

In May 2025, Bradford County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested Young, leading to convictions for property damage, aggravated stalking, burglary, petty theft and resisting without violence.
The victim advised that her now ex-boyfriend Young was on the roof of her residence and attempting to enter through her bedroom window. The victim informed police that as Young “came through the window, he told her he would kill her if he found out she is pregnant."
A deputy reported that Young was fleeing the scene upon their arrival. Using a K-9, deputies found Young hiding on the roof of Club LA.
Upon his arrest, Young reportedly said he “just opened the window.” A search revealed he was in possession of the victim’s cell phone.
Bradford County Jail Fight
In February 2026, Young was hit with an additional case stemming from a fight he was involved in while incarcerated in the Bradford County Jail, leading to a felony battery conviction.
Authorities attempted to conceal the name of the victim. However, due to a botched redaction on the charging document which is publicly available on the court records website, the victim is identifiable as Dakota Lee Swendsen.

Swendsen is currently in the Bradford County Jail with no bond on charges of child neglect with great bodily harm, aggravated child abuse and distributing a controlled subtance to a minor.

Based on the police report, Young confronted Swendsen after other inmates informed him he had charges involving children. When Young started swinging on Swendsen, other inmates reportedly held a blanket up in an attempt to block the view of cameras and obstruct jail guards.
Bradford County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Antonio Velazquez reported the following:

Young took plea deals in his Bradford cases earlier this year. Between those and his Alachua County probation violation, Young is set to be in prison for the next decade with a scheduled release date of December 3, 2036.
