Man Sentenced to Six Months in Jail for Violating Felony Battery Probation
Shannon Wayne Bracewell (ACSO Jail)

Last month, Shannon Wayne Bracewell, 56, was sentenced to six months in the Alachua County Jail for violating his probation.

Bracewell was arrested initially in June 2025 after Gainesville Police Department officers charged him with felony domestic battery by repeat offender. According to the arrest report, the victim and Bracewell were driving to the University of Florida Emergency Vet Clinic with their puppies when they “became engaged in a verbal argument regarding [Bracewell] having sex with their male roommate.”

Bracewell became enraged and attacked the victim with a banana before punching her and slamming her head into the dashboard. When the victim began to defend herself, Bracewell clawed at her, breaking her necklace, of which the clasp was found embedded in the skin on the backside of her neck.

The victim was eventually able to escape the vehicle with her puppies and belongings.

The attack was witnessed by four people sitting in a car adjacent to the victim and Bracewell’s vehicle. The victim had numerous visible injuries. All four witnesses told police that they saw Bracewell and the victim yelling outside the vehicle. They said the victim then got inside, and Bracewell crawled back into the vehicle and punched her several times before she was able to exit.

Putnam County Sheriff’s Office deputies interviewed Bracewell at his residence, and he reportedly said the victim attacked him first.

In August 2025, Bracewell entered into a no-contest plea agreement that was accepted by Judge David Kreider, in which he was convicted of felony battery by repeat offender and sentenced to two years of probation.

In March 2026, Bracewell was arrested again on a probation violation warrant. Bracewell failed to complete batterers’ intervention and tested positive for fentanyl/methamphetamine, court records show.

On July 14, 2026, Bracewell entered a plea of admission to violating his probation and Judge Susanne Wilson Bullard imposed a six-month jail sentence with 89 days of credit for time served.

Bracewell has two prior convictions for misdemeanor battery out of Putnam County, along with a conviction for violating pretrial release conditions.
