Gainesville Man who Possessed Child Sexual Abuse Material Begins Serving Ten Year Prison Sentence
On May 13, Miko Jay Bryles, 30, was transferred into the custody of the Florida Department of Corrections to begin serving prison time for possessing child sexual abuse material (CSAM).
Bryles, facing a maximum sentence of 120 years in prison, took a plea deal sentencing him to ten years in prison followed by ten years of sex offender probation. The plea deal was a negotiated agreement between the Eighth Judicial Circuit State Attorney's Office and Bryles' public defender.
The plea deal was signed off by Assistant State Attorney Darla Whistler and accepted by Judge Susanne Wilson Bullard.
According to a Facebook post by the Gainesville Police Department (GPD), Bryles was arrested on March 26, 2025, with assistance from the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office.
Bryles was initially facing 52 charges but ultimately was only convicted of five.

49 of Bryles' charges were for possessing CSAM while three were for his alleged distribution of CSAM, based on GPD’s post. The post states, “During Bryles’ original interview with law enforcement, he denied ownership of the three (3) suspect accounts, but he later admitted ownership. Bryles claimed that he stumbled upon the abuse material accidentally. However, the online chats Bryles participated in revealed that he actively sought out child abuse material.”

With credit for roughly a year he served in jail, Bryles is scheduled to be released from prison on March 23, 2035. Bryles is currently at the Reception and Medical Center awaiting transportation to a permanent facility.
