GPD Officer Pulls Over Man Riding Bike, Leads to Arrest

Thursday evening, Gainesville Police Department Officer Dustin Johnson conducted a traffic stop on Pierre Dixon, 41, while he was riding his bike on NW 5th Ave.
Johnson reported that he observed Dixon “commit a traffic violation and then a pedestrian violation while riding his bicycle.”
Johnson reported that he “smelled the odor of cannabis,” and told Dixon he would search him. Dixon then reportedly took a small baggie out of his pocket and placed it inside his mouth.
Johnson reported, “I instructed [Dixon] to spit out the baggie but he refused. I attempted to retrieve the baggie, and while doing so, [Dixon] bit my right index finger. [Dixon] eventually spit it out.”
Johnson reported that Dixon resisted arrest and “had to be taken to the ground.”
The baggie contained one gram of cannabis, the arrest report states.
Dixon is facing charges of battery on specified personnel, tampering with evidence, marijuana possession and resisting an officer without violence. He also faces a count of felony battery by a repeat offender because he has a prior battery conviction from 2018.
Dixon is being held in the Alachua County Jail and bond information isn’t immediately clear from court records.
