Gainesville Police Department (GPD) units responded with a “time delay of two hours” after receiving reports of a 53-year-old man battering an 83-year-old family member, according to the arrest report.

The report states that around 10:00 am, the victim attempted to speak with Edgardo San-Miguel, but he did not respond from inside his bedroom. The victim reportedly used a screwdriver to get into San-Miguel’s room and asked him to take the garbage out.

The victim told police that San-Miguel “became angry and used his hands to grab her along both shoulders where he shook her several times… at some point, [San-Miguel] pushed her backwards through the open doorway.” This reportedly made the victim to fall on the hallway floor, causing a visible bruise to her hip.

Officer Nicholas Domico reported, “LEO arrived with a time delay of two hours. LEO searched the house, and could not obtain any answer at the bedroom door. With an open back door and open backyard gate, LEO exhausted efforts and could not develop any indicators to confirm [San-Miguel] was still home. The victim agreed to leave out of town for the night with family.”

San-Miguel was arrested on September 3 and released from jail within the following week on a $50,000 bond, court records show.
