High Springs Police Department officers arrested John Rhea Peck, 30, Thursday afternoon and charged him with aggravated battery and domestic battery by strangulation.
Officer Montavis Miner reported, "Upon arrival, I made contact with the victim... [She] stated that she was staying with her boyfriend, John Peck. She reported that they had a verbal altercation earlier in the day when Mr. Peck confronted her. She said that later in the evening, while he was playing a video game, she poured him a glass of beer before heading to take a shower. While she was in the shower, Mr. Peck burst through the bathroom door and began accusing her of cheating and being involved with other people. He turned the shower off and demanded that she leave his house. [The victim] explained that she turned the shower back on because she still had shampoo in her hair. At that point, he pushed her while she was in the shower, causing her to fall. He then dragged her out of the shower, and they began to struggle in the living area. Mr. Peck then dragged her to the couch, where he strangled her and shoved a sock down her throat, stating, 'You have two options: either live or die.' He also squeezed her cheeks, scratching her face in the process."
On February 13, 2025, Peck entered a no contest plea deal where he was convicted of misdemeanor domestic battery and domestic battery by strangulation and sentenced to 13 months in prison followed by three years of probation.
