Immigrant Rights Advocates Hold “Camp Cruelty” Protest

A group of immigrant rights advocates led by Glenn Terry hosted a public display at Depot Park Saturday morning to bring awareness to the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) detainment of international community members.

The protest, dubbed “Camp Cruelty,” was a grassroots effort, not organized by any specific activist groups.

The demonstration featured actors dressed as ICE agents who walked around asking protesters for their identification.

The protest featured a cage in the middle of the roundabout where the mock ICE agents held protesters pretending to be ICE detainees.

At the end of the demonstration, the mock detainees pushed against the cage walls and knocked it down to break free.
In an interview, Terry called ICE holding facilities “inhumane and disgusting” and said President Donald Trump wants to “turn immigrants into enemies the same way Hitler turned Jews into the enemies 70 years ago.”

The demonstration featured moments of silence for protesters to reflect on what detained immigrants are going through.
