Man Arrested For Attempted Sexual Battery Against Minor in Midtown Wawa Bathroom
Update | Jan 25, 2026: Malcolm Lynn Andrews' attempted sexual battery charge was dropped and he was deemed mentally unfit to stand trial on other charges he faced stemming from the attack. He has a felony forensics hearing scheduled for April 16, 2026.

Andrews has a prior felony conviction in Alachua County from 2021 for aggravated assault. He was arrested in 2018 on a North Carolina parole violation but Judge Denise Ferrero signed off on a waiver of extradition.
Last Thursday Malcolm Andrews, 55, was arrested and charged with attempted sexual battery against a minor after he attempted to rape a 17-year-old girl using the restroom at the Wawa located just a few blocks from the University of Florida’s Library West.
Andrews, who told officers he was meeting someone else for arranged sex, had stripped completely naked in the public women’s restroom and attempted to break into the stall being used by a 17-year-old girl.
The victim’s boyfriend pushed a naked Andrews out of the bathroom after hearing her scream and Andrews ran away from the Wawa. Gainesville Police Department (GPD) officers found him walking around with no clothes nearby and arrested him.
Prosecutors filed a pretrial detention motion on Andrews.
