Updated: Sep 24

On September 17, at approximately 6:47 p.m, the Alachua County Police Department (APD) received reports about shots fired at Cynthia Chestnut Park. After hearing five gunshots, one caller saw a man lying on the ground and not moving. The man was transported to Shands where he later died.

The suspect was said to be driving Northbound in a small silver Sedan with multiple occupants. No reports suggest any suspects were caught in this investigation. When more information is received this page will be updated.

Update: On September 18, APD declared Javon Barclay, 28, as a person of interest in the Cynthia Park shooting investigation. Barclay was pulled over after he was seen driving the victim's car on the road. Barclay was booked on charges of fleeing law enforcement and driving without a license. He has not been charged with murder, however, detectives consider him a person on interest.

Additionally, the victim's name was revealed in APD's press release. Gainesville hairstylist Johnny Walker was the person killed. His older sister, Dawn Walker told WUFT he would go to Cynthia Chestnut Park every Sunday to relax and listen to music.
